FRANKTON CLUB TROPHY DONATED Ideal weather conditions were responsible for improved attendance at the Frankton green, several bowlers making their appearance for the first time this season. It was pleasing to see several more new members in attendance. The president announced the conditions of play for the President’s Cup, and also thanked Mr H. A. Judge for his donation of a trophy for the most improved player in the junior handicap. Nominations for the singles and pairs championships, also for the junior and open handicaps close on November 18. Week-end results were as follows: Keightley, Stuart, Samson, Cann 18, Mills, McCready, McLean, Bond, 17; Comer, Millar, Connew, Whineray 27, Ross Weatherley, Sole. During the week-end a working bee was busy making preparations for the night bowling season, which opens on Wednesday, November 15. Sunday Conimrnced in perfect weather conditions, ami with the, club’s three greens looking a picture in their delightrul garden setting, the Cambridge Bowling club's customary “At Home” day on Saturday, which marks the oiTlrial opening or the season, was one of the most successful functions in the history o r the club. Sixteen rinks were occupied, embracing 32 learns and a total or 128 bowlers, and Included among them were ten teams representing various rlubs in the South Auckland centre. A large number of members’ wives were also the guests ©r the chib. President's Welcome Before declaring the season open the president. Mr C. W. Hooker, extended a warm welcome to all present. He referred to the Improvements recently carried out to the greens, paths, banks, etc., and Thanked all those members who had contributed to the cost. Mr Hooker wished all local members a happy season and extended the club's best wishes to all clubs and bowlers in the centre. The president also Congratulated Mr 5. Lewis on being appointed a member or the New Zealand bowling Council. In reply Mr Lewis wished all clubs in the centre a successful season ami said he had a message from the centre. It was offered in a kindly spirit, and it was that especially in lnter-club and tournament days all members should attend the greens In appropriate bowling attire.
