COLLIERY IDLE
DISPUTE OVER TUBS MEN DECIDE TO STRIKE (Special to Times) WESTPORT, Sunday Because the management of the Westport Coal Company, Limited, refused the request of the miners to have smaller tubs used in the Denniston mine, the men unanimously decided tonight not to go to work tomorrow morning. It is not yet known whether other mines ifi the district will be similarly affected. The company had decided some time ago that to meet the demand for coal larger tubs should be introduced in the Denniston mine. It was considered that one of the truckers was too small to handle the new tubs, and the company refused to allow him to work. The other truckers protested that the tubs were too large for them to handle, and a deputation waited upon the management on Friday night. It was agreed that the trucker who had been refused work should be allowed to take his place, but the company refused to revert to smaller tubs. The men held a meeting tonight and decided to strike.
