SICKNESS OF TROOPS
INFLUENZA EPIDEMIC DEFINITELY EASING OFF FEWER IN HOSPITAL Less sickness among the soldiers is being experienced in the Hopu Hopu military camp, and the improvement in the weather has brought a definite waning of the recent influenza epidemic. Many of the men still have severe colds, however, but the number requiring hospital attention is fewer. Commenting to-day on the sickness at the camp which has necessitated the admission of men to the Waikato Hospital, Dr. R. S. A. Graham, medical superintendant, said that the influenza epidemic had definitely been broken. Sickness generally was easing off although a few cases were still being admitted. They were of a lighter nature, however. There had been no serious sickness other than influenza. Although there was a considerable number of soldier patients in the hospital the total was much fewer than at the heights of the epidemic. At present 25 troops were inmates of the hospital, whereas two weeks ago the number had reached 47. Nine men were discharged this week. POSITION IN THE SOUTH TRENTHAM EPIDEMIC WANING (Special to Times) WELLINGTON, Friday The mild epidemic of influenza which attacked the central district mobilisation camp, at Trentham, is now on the wane, and many of the men have gone back to training. After discharge from hospital, the men are being put.into special huts for two or three days’ rest. The epidemic has not been peculiar to the camp, and there have been many cases in Wellington during the past few weeks. Of a mild type common at this time of year, the illness has in the majority of cases not lasted more than a week.
