ACTION CONSIDERED
FARMERS’ UNION MEETS WAIKATO EXECUTIVE DECISION Decisions regarding appropriate action by the farming community in the event of the Government failing to meet the requests of the dairy industry were made at a largely attended meeting of the Waikato subprovincial execuitve of the Farmers’ Union, in Hamilton, to-day. The executive members of the South Auckland Dairy Association also attended. Considering that it was not advisable at present to make public the decisions of the meeting regarding action to be taken, the executive held the meeting in committee. Mr J. H. Furniss reported upon the Farmers’ Union delegation to members of the Cabinet in Wellington, and the position was fully discussed during a lengthy debate. Several resolutions were passed. Indifference of Cabinet Strong resentment was expressed at the apparent indifference of Cabinet to the requests of the Industry regarding the guaranteed price, emergency control regulations, the farm labour problem, and other matters vitally affecting the industry. It was decided that failing action on the part of the Dominion executive independent action should be taken by the Waikato sub-provincial executive if necessary. Mr Furniss reported that during the Wellington discussions arrangements were set under way for the organisation of a federation to embrace all sections of primary producers in New Zealand, with the object of taking more effective action for the protection of farming interests.
