FIREWORKS DISPLAY
ANNUAL CELEBRATIONS FIXTURES IN HAMILTON Although the actual anniversary of the attempt by Guy Fawkes to dissolve the British Parliament with the use of gunpowder does not fall until to-morrow, the official, and most of the unofficial, celebrations in Hamilton will take place to-night. The conspirators’ plot to rid England of its Parliament took place hundreds of years ago, but the coming of November 5 never fails to bring keen anticipation and enthusiasm to children, to whom the event is second only to Christmas and a birthday. This year, retailers have reported the usual brisk trade in all varieties of fireworks, and with many bonfire stacks already built in several parts of the town, the celebration promises to equal any of its predecessors. A benefit fireworks display will be held at the Hamilton Lake, the proceeds to be devoted to the Hamilton Sunshine League and the Waikato Children’s Camp League. The programme has been arranged under the direction of Mr W. H. Paul, and a band programme will be presented during the display. The price of fuel oil in England is being increased by 2£d per therm for London and home countries. Petrol is 2|d and vehicular oil and kerosene l£d a gallon dearer. Details of week-end excursions to be held in connection with the Centennial Exhibition in Wellington are in this issue. A train will ftve Frankton on Friday, November 10, for Wellington and will leave Wellington on the return journey on Sunday afternoon. Another excursion will leave Hamilton on Friday November 24, and will return on the Saturday.

German signs were destroyed and Hitler's pictures burnt. Many German soldiers joined in the demonstrations, demolishing the guards' building and attacking the the Gestapo's building.
