THE BUSY SUNBEAM The sunbeam knocked on the snail’s front door, “ Open! ” it cried, “ for it’s Spring once more! ” Put -out your horns and your little grey head, And hurry away to the wallflower bed! ” Then, to the pond went the sunbeam bright, And called to the frogs that slept out of sight, Come out of the mud, give your legs a shake, For Spring is here, and it’s time to awake! It woke the lizard, it woke the bee, It found some grubs in the bark of a tree. It tickled the hedgehog, then it lay Warming the crocuses all the day. THE BAND Wr ; Left, right! Left, right! Soldiers are marching along. • Right, left! Right, left! Singing a , marching song. Rifles o’er every shoulder, I Knapsacks on every back; ; But I do like the drummer , Going whackety, wliackety, whac':! ! Beating away with his drumstick, j Keeping in- time with the band. ; Oh, I*d like to be a drummer, i He looks so fine and grand; j “ Umpa, umpa, umpa, um,” How I should like to beat the drum, i “ Umpa, umpa, umpa, um, j Tummety, tummety, tummety, turn!” ! <s)®<2X£)®<2Xs^ ; Why is a kiss over the telephone ( like a straw hat?—Because neither i of them is felt. * . —Sent by Robert Bergquist.
