MINING DISPUTE

15,000 MEN IDLE INTERVENTION SOUGHT (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) SYDNEY, Nov. 3 Nearly all coal mines in- the northern field were idle today, involving 15,000 employees, owing to the strike of 300 mine engineers, who refused to obey their executive and return to work. Miners’ officials have gone to Melbourne tonight to obtain the intervention of the Commonwealth Arbitration Court. A. Murray, George Palmer, R. Philip The 300 men on strike, members of the Amalgamated Engineering Union, are employed in power houses and on the maintenance of mine machinery. They are demanding a 40-hour week.
