MINES IDLE

WEST COAST DISPUTE TWO STATE CONCERNS MEN AND BOYS STOOD DOWN (By T>leßTfm>v —t»pi»sc Acunclatlnn) GREYMOUTH, Friday The James and Strongman State mines were both idle to-day as the result of a dispute. Yesterday two truckers at the James who allegedly knocked off early on Wednesday were stood down for the day. They were accompanied home by 24 workmates, the mine continuing the work short-staffed. This morning these 24 men and boys were stood down for the day, with the result that their workmatts returned home. As the Strongman mine utilises the same rope road it was automatically rendered idle. The Strongman mine, which is to replace the James mine, was opened this week.
