CAPTAIN’S RETIREMENT
COMMANDER OF ORIENT SHIPS The managers of the Orient Line announce the retirement of Captain F. R. O’Sullivan, who has held commands in their steamers since April, 1919. Captain O’Sullivan, whose early nautical training was gained on H.M.S. Conway, later served in tramp steamers, and entered service of the Orient Line as 4th Officer in the “Ormuz” in March, 1908. He served through the Great War in H.M.S. Otranto, which was at the Battle of Colonel and later visited Sydney to refit. Captain O’Sullivan’s first voyage to Australia after the war was in s.s. Friedrichsruh, which brought troops back. The Orient liners under Captain O’Sullivan’s command were Ormiz, Orvieto, Otranto, Orontes and Orcades. His last visit to Australia in the Orcades was February, 1939.
