Brewery Workers’ Award
Little progress had been made when the discussion of the application for a new award for brewery workers in all industrial districts except Nelson and Otago-Southland were concluded in Conciliation Council in Wellington yesterday. Agreement was reached on a number of minor clauses, but not on the clauses dealing with hours and wages, which were referred to the Arbitration Court. Grants to Churches Grants totalling £7482 to about 80 aided charges and home mission stations were authorised for the coming year by the missions committee of the Presbyterian Church at its meeting in Auckland this week. Of the total, which represents a slight reduction on last year’s figures, £4930 is to go to home mission stations, and the remainder to aided charges. Other grants are still under consideration.
