LABOUR ON FARMS
POSITION TO BE SURVEYED (By Telea-ranTi.—f*rp«»s Association) WELLINGTON, Tuesday “I have no desire to enter into a controversy with the Minister of Labour, the Hon. P. C. Webb, on the degree of co-operation existing hitherto between the Placement Service and the Farmers’ Union, ’’ said the Dominion secretary of the Farmers’ Union, Mr A. P. O’Shea, this evening. “I would like to point out, however, that the Council of Primary Production is endeavouring to arrange for a national survey of the farm labour position. “This job will fall largely on the Farmers’ Union and it has been decided that wheji the survey is completed representatives of the union and others will confer with placement officers. I would suggest that judgment be suspended and criticism withheld until the survey is completed and conferences with the placement officers have taken place.” A public statement about the survey should be released shortly, Mr O’Shea concluded.
