BIENNNAL MEETING

NORTH WAIKATO FEDERATION The Northern Waikato Federation of Women’s Institutes held its first biennial council meeting on October 25 in the Huntly ' Presbyterian Church Hall, which was bright with flowers and banners. There was a good attendance of both delegates and members. The Waikato Federation president and executive were also present. Mrs McGaughran, president of the Northern Waikato Federations gave the opening address, and the Mayor of Huntly, Mr W. C. E. George, welcomed the delegates and members. Mrs J. Ward Chapman spoke on the work being planned by the Waikato Federation during the war. After the business part of the programme Miss Mawson (Hamilton) gave a most interesting and instructive talk on “Women’s place in the community.” Bouquets were pre-

sented to Mrs McGaughran, Mrs Chapman and Miss Mawson.

Gordonton members supplied songs and a short sketch. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the Presbyterian Church Committee for the use of their hall.
