FIRST DAY’S RESULTS FOXEN’S GOOD RETURN BRAZEN BOLD IN NGATEA HACK CUP TO VAALSTAR (Special from “Martian”) PAEROA, Saturday The weather was fine and there was an excellent attendance for the first day of the Ohinemuri Jockey Club’s spring meeting at Paeroa today. The first division resulted in a duel between the Te Rapa representatives, Foxsen and Mayfair, both or whom had drawn attention to their prospects by the quality of their work before the meeting. Mayfair had every chance but Foxsen finished too strongly and was the more impressive. Waitarma and Mayrair were the first to break the line and made the early running from Riffraff. Miss Bridge, Whenua. Monte Crlsto, Wish Acre, Gas Acre and The Alibi. Waitarma and Mayfair continued to make the pace across the top and led Into the straight rrom Monte Crlsto, Wish Acre, Gas Acre, Whenua, Proud Fox, The Alibi and Little Idea. Foxsen came through and wore down Mayrair to beat her by a length and a-quarter with Sweet Nothing, who finished stfongly. two lengths away. Maereana was fourth and then came Whenua, Monte Crlsto and Little Idea. Time, 1.19. Second Division 1— I—SUNOLA, MTS A. C. and C. H. Bartlett’s br g by Lord Quex — Nukerakau, 3yrs, 8.6 (R. Sunola. who had been hitting out well on the Takanini tracks won the second division in a good style though he had nothing to spare in a tight finish with Wildore. Estro and Wildore were early away from Australian Star, Sunola, ’Mias Regina, Trig 'Station, Tellsome, Merry Vaals and First Gold Money. Sunola had run up to Estro half-a-mile Crom home and this pair led into the straight rrom Tellsome, Wildore, Australian Star, First Gold Money, Trig Station and Miss Regina. In a fine finish Sunola won by a head from Wildore with Estro a neck away third. Tellsome was fourth followed by Trig Station, First Gold Money and Miss Regina. Time, 1.18. KOPUARAHI HURDLES HANDICAP Or £175; 14 miles 5 7—GENERAL RUSE, Mrs N. I. Burke’s ch g by General Latour— Peruse, aged, 9.0 (P. McD. Brady) 1 7—S—GASCYNE, Mr H. Robinson’s ch g by Gasbag—Cynthia, 9.2 (O. Mclnally) 2 2 2—WILD ACRE, Mr G. Newsham's b g by Acre—Wild Country, 9.0 (H. Winner trained by owner, Matamata. General Ruse gave his best exhibition for some time when, after heading the rront six furlongs from home, he carried on to win handsomely. Blsqult was going well until he failed six rurlongs rrom home and dropped back to be one or the last to finish. Gascyne shaped like an improver while Wild Acre should also improve on his performance. Herewith and General Ruse were prominent early rrom General Riske, Bisqult and Wild Acre. Passing the stands, Herewith was just clear of General Ruse with Bisquit, Wild Acre, Gascyne, British Sovereign, Chlkara, Cintrace, Gadger and General Riske next and Rothoon at the rear of the Held. General Ruse was clear ot Wild Acre as they entered the back stretch with Herewith, Gascyne, British Sovereign, Chikara, Gadger and Hessketoon in that order. General Ruse was eight lengths clear of Wild Acre as they turned Tor home where Gascyne and Chikara were In close attendance. Once over the last fence General Ruse carried on to win by five lengths from Gascyne, who finished well to beat Wild Acre by a neck. Gadger was rourih and then came Hessketoon, Chikara and Herewith in that order. Time, 2.52 4-5. NGATEA HANDICAP OT £200; about 7 rurs and 60vds 3—2—BRAZEN BOLD, Mr R. B. Brazen Bold, who after beginning smartly, hit the rront within a couple of furlongs, was always going nicely and stayed on to score narrowly rrom Balinavar, who disputed every Inch or ground within the distance. A aalso began best and was prominent early rrom Pocket Venus. Balinavar and Brazen Bold. Brazen Bold was taken through to the front as they raced to the back stretch and was closely followed by Balinavar. Qesiage, Very Glad, To Hai. Vaalso, Brazilian. Eastern Heir and Pocket Venus. Besiege had run up behind Brazen Bold as they turned for borne with Balinavar handily placed in front or Very Glad, Brazilian. Mon Acre, Te Hai, Requiem and Vaalso. Brazen Bold held on in the run home to win by a head from Balinavar with Mon Acre a length away. Very Glad was rourtli, followed Besiege. Requiem, Te Hai, Brazilian. Vaalso and Eastern Heir. Alter following Erlick into the straight he hit the front hair-way down and made a wonderful race or it from then on. Palmint put up a solid performance in that in* was tailing the field early and had to make up considerable leeway to get within striking distance of the leaders. Royal Message was followed early by Erlick, this pair showing out past tire stands from Koxtoon, Vaalstar, Gay Movie, Raceline, Kasplan, Every Port, Beverley, and Palmint. Erlick had headed Royal Message as they ran along the back and here Vaalstar was In front or Gay Movie, Raceline, Kasplan, Every Part and Beverley. Vaalstar was right on the heels or Erlick as they turned for home, with Royal Message and Foxtoon In close order and Kaspian, Every Port and Palmint next. Nothing had a chance with vaalstar in the straight and be went on to win by four lengths rrom Palmint. with Foxtoon a length away third. Kaspian was fourth and then followed Royal Message, Beverley, Every Port, Erlick and Kaceline. Time, 1.59 2-6.
