MORE MARRIAGES

SEPTEMBER STATISTICS FIGURES FOR THREE QUARTERS An increase of 15 in the number of marriages over the total for September of last year is the chief feature of the vital statistics in Hamilton for this month. On the outbreak of war at the beginning of the month applications for marriage licences were numerous and the month’s total reached 41, against 26 for the same period in 1938. For the first nine months of the year marriages numbered 289, an increase of 20 on the figure for the first threequarters of last year. Births for September numbered 51, compared with 52 in September last year, while deaths numbered 30, a decrease of six on last year’s figure. The following table shows the comparative figures for the first nine months of this year and last year: 1939 1938 Births 495 474 Deaths 267 275 Marriages 289 269
