DR. BARNARDO’S HOMES
FUNCTION AT CAMBRIDGE Organised by the Cambridge Primary School branch of the Young Helpers’ League, a successful sale oi work was recently held in St. Paul’s Methodist schoolroom. The function was opened by Mrs A. W. Gane, the honorary secretary, who congratulated the children and thanked the : mothers who had assisted them. A pleasant ceremony took place when Mrs Acutt, travelling secretary \ from London, on behalf of headquarters, presented Mrs Gane with the badge of Knight Commander, the | highest honour that the league be- | stows. Mrs Gane has for many years carried out untiring work as the league secretary in Cambridge. During the afternoon a short con- ; cert was presented, while in the | evening a very interesting lantern I lecture was given. Stall-holders Stall - holders were:—Cake stall Audrey Smith, Dawn Garnett and i Jocelyn Garrard; sweet stall, Joan i Arnold, Shirley Edwards and Elva ; Bycroft; jelly stall, Pat Catran and j Verna Thompson; produce, Martin I Cell and Bill Spearey; toys, Barbara I Richardson, Nathlea Cummack and 1 Lola Smith; work stall, Heather Ferguson; dolls’ stall, Joyce Fagan; soft I drinks, Peter Penlington, John By- ’’ | croft and Gilbert Walker; wardens' stall, Thelma Hall; afternoon tea, Pat O’Laughlan and Beryl Wood. Among other officials present were. The Mayoress, Mrs Edgar James, the president, Mrs R. J. Neely, and Mesdames M. Souter, J. G. Catran, Bps- , ton Couper, Edwards, G. H. Goodman, S. Hall, Moore, H. C. Tod, Wild, Arnold. Misses G. L. Brann and F. E. Hooker.
