BRITAIN AND EIRE
REPRESENTATIVE APPOINTED (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyrlg&t) LONDON, Sept. 27 It is announced that Sir John Maffey has been appointed British representative in Eire. Mr De Valera announced that the appointment of a British representative was to supplement the existing system of communications owing to problems in political and economic relations. Sir John is a director of Imperial Airways. He had a distinguished career in India, and was for eight years Governor-General of the Sudan. He was Permanent Undersecretary of State for the Colonies for four years. A British Official Wireless message says the appointment is a natural development of similar appointments during the last 10 years in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Satisfaction is felt in London at the agreement reached with the Eire Government on the appointment.
