RACING AT PAEROA

OHINEMURI CLUB

WELL=BALANCED FIELDS POLAND CUP CONTEST REVIEW OF THE PROSPECTS (By “Martian”) Well-balanced fields are a feature of the opening day, to-morrow, of the Ohinemuri Jockey Club’s spring meeting at Paeroa and indications are for a highly successful meeting. The Poland Cup has drawn nine runners and the evenness of the field should make for a great betting race. The open also contains the requisite material for an interesting contest. Betting will be on the win and place principle. Following are the fields with a review of the prospects:—

12.0 In the first division Maereana and Foxsen are likely improvers with prospects and as both have been working well they should ensure support. Little Idea should be all the better for racing and Karatoki, who has been shaping encouragingly on the tracks may show to advantage. Riff Raff, Wishacre, Miss Bridge and Crestman are not without prospects and other likely sorts comprise Mayfair, who showed promise at Avondale, Crestman and Gasacre, whose track essays are indicative of an early return. The favourites may be— MAYFAIR FOXSEN CRESTMAN Second Division

First Gold Money is on the upgrade and appeals as one of the hardest to dispose of in the second division. Royal Fawkes should run well, while the improving Sunlona, who has been hitting out brilliantly on the tracks, should claim a strong measure of support. Estro, Wild Ore, Tellsom and Vertex are possibilities, while further down improvers such as Rosemae, Australian Star and Bulwark will have their full measure of support in a race in which there should be support forthcoming for— FIRST GOLD MONEY ROSEMAE SUN ,01 A

Gadger should be all the better for racing at Avondale but Biscuit, a much-improved jumper, makes greater appeal and recent running points to his being the hardest to dispose of. British Sovereign has been working and schooling well and, like Chikara, may soon be seen to better advantage. Gascyne has a jumper’s chance and General Ruse, fit and well, would have prospects. Herewith, Rothoon and Tea Chat are the best of the others. When the figures are balanced the public may sum up for the chances of—BISCUIT BRITISH SOVEREIGN

The form last season of Balinavar will ensure him a firm following and if himself on the day he should keep the opposition alive to his presence. Scotland is a solid performer at his best, but, like Te Hai, has been off the scene for a spell and will have to be taken largely on trust. Beseige shaped like an improver at the Pakuranga Hunt last month and Marie’s Acre should be benefited by racing at Avondale. Other likely improvers include Pocket Venis, Vaalso, Very Glad, Brazen Bold and Requiem. Mon Acre has been hitting out attractively on the tracks and is sure to go a fine race. The elect of investors may be — Ti/rfYW A

Raceline was in winning vein at the recent Avondale meeting and as he has since been working well he should give a forward account of himself here. Palmint is a likely

improver but Kaspian may appeal more. He ran several fine races last season and if right to-morrow may prove one of the hardest to dispose of. Erlick should run well and Foxtoon, a winner over a mile at Avondale, will claim an optimistic following. A heavy track would be to Vitement’s advantage, while the latest track form of Vaalstar indicates a chance for him. Gay Movie shaped well for fourth in novice company at Avondale and benefited by that outing may do better on this occasion. Royal Message, Every Port and Beverley should add interest to a race in which a well-supported trio may comprise— FOXTOON KASPIAN RACELINE

King Key’s form at Avondale indicated that he is returning to his best and as there is every indication of the going being on the easy side he should prove one of the hardest to dispose of. Valmint has been working attractively and will lack nothing on the score of condition, while Gold Vaals should be all the better for racing at Avondale. Hot Box has been off the scene for a spell but if right on the day will have to be respected. Master Brierly has been working in improved style and is capable of effecting a surprise. Airam indicated early winning form at Avondale and will need only to go away correctly to possess good prospects. Philcourt and Black Musk are likely lightweights, but indications are favouritism may be divided among.

ly in recent months and on the way he prevailed at Ellerslie last month he appeals as having a fine chance here of extending his account. En Tour is a prospect and Gadger’s latest running will claim him a firm following. Few horses have been schooling more attractively of late than Little Briton and in his present state of fitness he should be the hardest to dispose of. Roxy, the improxing Dark Rose, and Bells of Bow are the best of the remainder. The prime fancies may include— LITTLE BRITON BIFORM GADGER

The open sprint has attracted a useful field and Llangollen, though off the scene for a Spell will have to be respected despite her solid poundage. Orate has been shaping freely on the tracks as also has Royal Bachelor, whose early brilliance should stand to him on the turning Paeroa track. Pirate King, if sufficiently attuned, should make his presence felt, while an easing track will enhance the prospects of ! Young Paddon, who has been work- ! ing in improved style over the past fortnight. Gay Seton and Bachelor King are handily situated in the handicap and as the latter Has been doing everything required of him on the tracks he should give a solid account of himself. Te Monowai went a fine race at Ellerslie last month and must have a good chance, while of those further down Maxam appeals as the likeliest to trouble the favoured division which may comprise— ROYAL BACHELOR LLANGOLLEN voTTiMfi PAnnnw

Foxmonds form at Avondale will ensure her a following, but Mintlaw will need to improve to possess a chance. Sir Lysander is speedy and will have the advantage of securing a good position early. May Song has prospects and Kenneth Robert’s second to Brazen Bold in a division of the Jervois Handicap at Ellerslie last month indicates a chance for him. Spearford was running on at Avondale and should be improved. Ngawiri has trained on well and a line through her track work suggests she should make a bold showing. Greek Queen, Royal Message, Star Vaal, Tahiti and Starbright should add interest to the issue. There should be good support forthcoming for— FOXMOND NGAWIRI STARBRIGHT
