TE RAPA HORSES STARBRIGHT OVER FIVE ROLYAL BACHELOR HITS OUT (By “ Martian ”) Unpleasant conditions obtained at Te Rapa this morning when the final gallops for the Ohinemuri meeting took place on the course proper, 66ft ! out from the rails. The weather was ! fine early but rain set in after the j breakfast interval and continued inj cessantly for the remainder of the ! programme. Owing to the slippery state of the going times generally were slow, the best efforts of the morning being five furlong essays by Royal Bachelor and the novice Starbright. . Royal Bachelor (Brady) and May--1 fair (Ramsay), who galloped early when the track was in good order, ran five furlongs in 1.9, the former, as on Tuesday, being clear of his companion at the completion of the effort. Royal Bachelor executed his work in pleasing fashion and should give a good account of himsexf among the sprinters at Paeroa this week. Later, before the rain had set in, Game’s Choice (Winder) and Yed , Prior (Hain) ran once round in 2.13, the first half-mile occupying 56 l-ss. A Smart Quarter | A smart effort over two furlongs along the back was credited to Lady Bambury (Brady) and Marshall Hall (McKenzie), the pair keeping on terms throughout to record 25 2-ss, the initial furlong in 14s. The two-year-old Marshall Hall is an at-tractive-looking colt, whose progress will b§ the subject of interest. Calshot (O. Mclnally) and Acreman (J. Mclnally) ran the first halfmile of six furlongs in 55 l-ss. A useful effort over five furlongs was credited to the improving Starbright (J. Mclnally), who was shading Foxsen (O. Mclnally) over the deciding stages in 1.9, the first halfmile being traversed in 54 l-ss. Starbright appears to have benefited from racing at Avondale and may , be seen to better advantage, j Classic (W. Thomson) ran half-a- ---' mile in 595. He looks well. British Sovereign (Gilmer) and Rothoon (C. L. Goulsbro) were practically on terms in front of Gascyne (O. Mclnally) at the completion of a round in 2.16£. British Sovereign did his work well, while the display of Rothoon was an improvement on recent efforts. Raceline Over Three Raceline (Brown), who is bearing a healthy appearance, ran from the three furlongs to the six in 39 4-ss. He looks in good order for racing at Paeroa. i Master Brierly (McKenzie) was doing better than Te Poura (Mr Priest) over a round negotiated in 2.19 4-5. Mio Fratollo (Amunsden) was travelling well within himself several lengths clear of Cappy (McLaughlin) over the concluding stages of a round in 2.22 4-5. Mio Fratollo is on the upgrade and should strip well when required to race. Mia Regina (Watson) went once round in 2.24. Ngawiri (O.Mclnally) was doing better than Rosemae (Long) over half-a-mile in 55 4-ss. Both handled the conditions well. Diversity (Ensor) accounted for Karatoki (Gollop) and Maneroo (Long) over half-a-mile in 55 4-ss. Diversity has been working well of late and this morning’s effort indicated that she should perform prominently when produced again. Little Briton (Sharkey) gave a dashing display over five fences of the steeplechase country and further increased his circle of admirers for the Maramarua Steeplechase at Paeroa on Saturday. Dark Rose (C. L. Goulsbro), who was later associated over the same fences gave an improved display. i Under a Cloud It was stated by A. Winder this morning that Prince Acre would be an unlikely starter on the first day at Paeroa, the horse being under a cloud as tne result of a filled foot, i Additional riding engagements for the first day of the Ohinemuri meeting include: J. Mclnally: Foxsen, Starbright. N. Watson: Herewith, Bells of Bow. O. Mclnally: Roxy, Gascyne, Gentle Lady. N. R. McKenzie: Master Brier ly, Goldation. i J. Sharkey: Little Briton. 1 C. L. Goulsbro: Trig Station, Rot- : hoon, Dark Rose. |
