HAMILTON CRICKET

OLD BOYS CLUB MEETS GOOD INDIVIDUAL EFFORTS Another successful year was reviewed in the annual report of the Old Boys Cricket Club, presented at the annual meeting. Several members of the club gained representative honours, R. Clough, A. J. Aitken, W. Higginson and J. G. West gaining places in the Waikato Hawke Cup team. The best club batting averages went to Aitken, West, Higginson and S. E. Senior while Clough was the most successful bowler. L. Higginson, C. Clark and C. Fraser were the best of the Senior B batsmen, and Higginson, Fraser and Choat took the bowling honours. Clarke, Snell and Fraser secured places in the representative team.

At the annual social of the Waikato Cricket Association R. Clough and L. Higginson were the recipients of presentations, the former for an outstanding bowling feat in a Hawke Cup match and the latter for showing the most improvement in the Senior B grade.

The club wished to endorse the remarks expressed in the association’s report regarding the excellent services of the Umpires Association. It was hoped that that body would continue its operations and if possible extend them to the lower grades. The club was stated to be in a sound financial position. Effect of War It was not known to what extent the European war would affect cricket in Hamilton. In all probability representative fixtures would be cancelled. The decision not to send an Australian team to New Zealand next season would be a big disappointment to all. The following officers were elected: Patron.—Mr W. Fraser; president, Dr. M. M. Hockin; vice-presidents, Messrs W. J. Aitken, F. G. Seccombe, H. D. Tait and A. G. Ward; club captain, Mr S. E. Senior; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr W. Higginson; assistant secretary, Mr C. Clark.
