MURDER CHARGES
BOMBS IN LONDON FOUR PEOPLE REMANDED DAMAGE IN COVENTRY (United Press Assn. —Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received Sept. 28, 3.15 pan.) LONDON, Sept. 27 Charges of murdering four men and one woman were preferred against two men and two women in Coventry, arising from the explosions on August 25. All were remanded.
On August 25 a terrific explosion reduced the centre of Coventry to a shambles. Five people were killed and 12 detained in hospital. Fifty others were slightly injured in the explosion. The police believe that a member of the Irish Republican Army placed a time bomb on a tradesman’s tricycle, which was left standing in the street. Thousands of pounds’ worth of damage was done to shop fronts and windows in the chief thoroughfare of Broadgate, which was ankle-deep in shattered glass, while buses and trams were also damaged.
