TERRIBLE ORDEAL

CONTINUOUS AIR RAIDS INCENDIARY BOMBS DROPPED (Omclal Wireless) (Received Sept. 28, 12.30 p.m.) RUGBY, Sept. 27 Some indication of the terrible ordeal the city underwent before surrendering was given by the Warsaw radio station yesterday, on the 21st day of the siege. This message, describing the continuous air raids and shelling by heavy artillery, was published by the Ministry of Information. It says: “Hundreds of incendiary bombs caused numerous fires. Most of the public buildings in the city are in flames, and the number of fires probably exceeds 50. Fire brigades and civilians are with the utmost heroism fighting the flames. Their task is being made more difficult owing to the scarcity of water. The food situation is also difficult, especially distribution, which is very complicated owing to continual shelling and bombing. “Hundreds of horses killed by shells in the city streets are immediately butchered and distributed for consumption. “Public utility institutions are performing miracles.”
