AMPLE MONEY
SALE OF PRODUCE PRICES ALREADY FIXED “HIGHLY PROFITABLE" INFORMATION FROM OVERSEAS (Special lo Times) CAMBRIDGE, Thursday “I have it from two gentlemen of considerable standing overseas that long before next Easter—if all goes well with the war—there will be more liquid money in New Zealand than there has ever been before,” said Mr M. Wells, chairman of the Cambridge Power Board in a statement at the monthly meeting of the board last night. “I am able to give you this information, and take pleasure in so doing because I am satisfied it will be cheering news in these times,” said Mr Wells. “There will be plenty of money either for war purposes or for improving farm lands and increasing production. “Prices have been fixed—in fact they were fixed months ago —for pork, mutton, wool, butter and cheese, and they are highly profitable prices.
“Where everything else looks bad it is something to feel cheerful about, that we will have plenty of money in this country as a result of the current season’s production,” said Mr Wells, who reiterated that he had the information from the best authorities.
Interviewed by the Waikato Times after the meeting, Mr Wells said there should be a great demand from Britain for our primary production at very good prices, and the result would be a greatly improved trade balance in London.
