WHITE FEATHER SENT
SHOWN IN PARLIAMENT j MR S. G. HOLLAND’S DEFENCE (By TpWranli.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Wednesday Mr S. G. Holland (Opposition— Christchurch North) in the House of Representatives tonight exhibited a white feather, which he had received by post. He asserted that actions of. this kind were by no means uncemmon. “I regret to say that in many instances our soldiers are being scoffed at in the streets of Wellington,” he continued.
Mr F. W. Doidge (Opposition— Tauranga): And in Auckland.
Government Members: No, that is not so.
Mr Holland: If my friends opposite do not believe that, will they believe that white feathers are being sent to returned soldiers. I served in the last war and bear scars. I have already enlisted again to serve my country and here is my enlistment card.
“I hope that the person who sent me this is so upset by what he has done that he stays awake all night.” Mr Holland said that this was happening all through the country and he suggested it should be made a heavily punishable offence.
