APATHY CHARGE
SCOTTISH REGIMENT NO PROPER EQUIPMENT (Special to Times) DUNEDIN, Tuesday Charging the Government with apathy toward the recently-formed Scottish Regiment, the majority of speakers at a social tendered to the Dunedin Company of the regiment by the Council of Dunedin Scottish Societies, expressed disappointment that no kilted uniforms had been provided, and that members of the Christchurch and Dunedin companies had had to drill in denims, which were variously described as garments and as prison clothes. Disappointment was also expressed that there did not seem to be any likelihood of the regiment giving service as an individual unit. “ I think I should make reference,’’ said the president of the council, Mr P. Findlay, “to the disappointment we all ieel that the regiment or companies have not been properly equipped with the Highland dress and accoutrements. When we first moved in the matter over 12 months ago we had reliable information that the kilt uniform and outfit could have 1 been secured at a reasonable cost ; from the Black Watch Stores De- ; partment in London.”
