EVENING FROCKS

CRINOLINE PETTICOATS Evening frocks for spring will hav< at least two petticoats, usually on' of stiffened net, and another o taffeta. Gay trimmings to evening gowns will be “veiled” and instead of being made on the outer skirt they will be seen through the chiffon or net on the stiffened petticoat. The popular chartreuse green will be worn mostly in florals, allied with other shades, and very wide kid belts will adorn dinner gowns and evening frocks. The new crinoline petticoat will not be hooped all round, but only here and there to give a softness and pliability needed in the crowded modern ballroom. One beautiful model in shell pink stiffened net, self-embroidered on the full skirt, is worn over a crinoline taffeta petticoat with a wide frill at the hemline.

Another new and daring touch is given by the black model made of lace veiling—just like the heavier type of hat veiling—swathed at the bodice and hips, then spreading into a very full skirt. Though the veiling can be seen tulip blue velvet medallions appliqued on the taffeta petticoats to match the blue velvet ruching at the corsage. Grey will be more popular than ever for day and evening, and will provide a basic tone to be worn with the vivid new tulip shades. One grey net evening frock has an underskirt bright with large clusters of Parma violet flowers, and a camisole bodice with matching violet velvet straps. Florals worn with lightweight wool coats make smart ensembles for fashion meetings in spring. One floral angel’s skin frock is of morning glory blue and chartreuse green, and a stitched sunray pleated skirt and a grosgrain sash. Pale pastel and white prints will be as popular as ever, and the bloused frocks for day w«jar will be extra smart.
