OBITUARY
MR F. SIMPSON, M.P. (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyrlget) LONDON, Sept. 24 The death has occurred of Mr F. B. Simpson, M.P. He collapsed while playing golf. ’ Mr Simpson, who was 53, had been the Labour member for Ashton since 1935. He was Lord Mayor of Leeds for a year. MR CARL LAEMMLE AMERICAN FILM MAGNATE (United Press Assn. —Eler. Tel. CopvrlrtU) NEW YORK, Sept. 24 The death has occurred of Mr Carl Laemmle, film magnate. Mr Carl Laemmle was bora in Germany in January, 1867, and emigrated to the United States in 1884. He began life there as a newsboy, Later be was successful in business, and in 1906 invested his savings in one of Chicago's first cinemas. It was not long before be owned a group of picture houses. In 1913 he founded the Universal Film Corporation.
