INSANITARY CONDITIONS GERMAN COMPLAINTS MAGINOT COMPARED (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. CopjTlght) LONDON, Sept. 23 German prisoners arriving in France complain of the insanitary conditions in parts of the Siegfried Line, where cold and damp have affected the occupants. They also complain of the' bad ventilation of the concrete blockhouses. Contrasts between conditions in the Maginot and Siegfried Lines are drawn in a report from Paris, says a 8.8. C. broadcast. In the Maginot Line, the French troops are said to be well housed in huge, well-ventil-ated, underground barracks, where they are provided with good food, cooked in electric kitchens. In the Siegfried Line the Germans are said to be suffering discomforts. When the large steel doors of the blockhouses are closed, the quarters are damp and cold and ventilation is poor. All food has to be brought in. Another report says 25 per cent of the men in the Siegfried Line are suffering from rheumatism and stomach troubles.
