LOADED PREMIUMS

80LDIERS* INSURANCE SUGGESTION IN PARLIAMENT (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) WELLINGTON, Thursday A suggestion that the Government should consider paying increases in soldiers’ life insurance premiums from patriotic funds was contained in a question of which Mr W. A. Bodkin (Opposition—Central Otago) gave notice in the House of Representatives to-day. The question was addressed to the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry. Mr Bodkin asked the Minister if his attention had been drawn to an article in a newspaper stating that soldiers who, having volunteered for active service, desire to insure their lives to make provision for their dependants, are being called upon to pay a heavy war loading in addition to their ordinary premiums. “In view of the fact that the Minister lias intimated that all funds raised for patriotic purposes are to be controlled by the Government, will he bring up for the consideration of the Government and those responsible for the raising of money for patriotic purposes, the desirability of paying the increase in such premiums out of these funds?” Mr Bodkin continued. “During the last war. hundreds of soldiers were assisfen to pay life insurance premiums by the Financial Assistance Board.”
