OPEN FOR TRAFFIC

HAMILTON NORTH BRIDGE ROAD WIDENED TO 30 FEET The bottle-neck caused by the narrow bridge over the Whatawiriwiri Stream at Hamilton North has been removed by the widening of the bridge by about 9 feet. The new roadway, which is 30ft. wide and thus carries Victoria Street at the same width right up to the Fairfield bridge, was opened for traffic for the first time yesterday afternoon. The work was undertaken by the Hamilton Borough Council, who will share the cost with the Main Highways Board. The narrow bridge was one of the most dangerous stretches of road on the main highway from Hamilton to Auckland, owing to its being at the foot of two fairly steep hills which carry a great deal of traffic. The widening work has practically eliminated any suggestion that the motorist has to cross a bridge at this point, and the footway over the stream has also been widened. Although the roadway is open te traffic the final sealing of the surfice has not been completed.
