Assn —' r ’“' Tei Cnnvrietu; DETROIT, Sept. 20 In a contest for. the world s heavyweight boxing championship, Joe Louis, the title-holder, knocked out Bob Pastor in the iith. round. The loser made one of the gamest stands ever witnessed in a title bout in America, and he seriously threatened the champion in the eighth round. An attendance of 4b,UUO paid 400,U0U dollars. Louis floored Pastor four times in the first round and once in the second. The game New York tighter was lucky to remain on his feet in the third, but he won the fourth with a jabbing attack and a series of rights which shook the negro. The men fought on even terms in the fifth. Pastor was groggy in the sixth, but managed to keep on his leet. lie lost the seventh alter a succession of rights had opened a gash over his left eye. Pastor made a magnificent stand in the eighth round and swarmed over Louis, pummelling the champion until he was groggy and swayed o‘ver the ropes. Louis was troubled by a barrage of lefts and rights to the face. Pastor tried to finish him in the ninth, but Louis rallied and fought on even terms. A short right-cross to the chin in the 10th. round nearly knocked Pastor over the ropes and this was the blow that won the bout. Although Pastor did not drop, all the spring went out of his legs. Another right to the jaw in the 11 tlx. sent him down on his hands and knees, and he took the count with blood pouring from his mouth, nose and left eye.
