CALM IN BRITAIN
DEPOSITS IN SAVINGS BANKS TOTAL OF £937,530,000 KEEP COMMERCE MOVING iLuited Preas Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, Sept. 19 Symptomatic of the public calm during the recent crisis and Britain's entry into the war is the fact that more money was deposited in the Post Office Savings Bank during the nine days ended September 6 than was taken out.
Deposits amounted to £4,705,203. The total amount deposited with the Post Office Savings Dank at the end of August was £937,530,000. NEW YORK, -Sept. 19
United States shippers are impressed by Britain’s determination to keep commerce moving, as illustrated by the announcement that the British Government is underwriting eastbound cargoes on all ships bound for Britain, regardless of nationality, at the low rate of 2 per cent. Many exporters have already sent cargoes abroad.
