LAND SALE BUSINESS
FARMING PROPERTY DEALS TOWN SECTIONS SELL WELL “LOOSEN THE PURSE STRINGS” “Most of our members have not had such a successful year as usual,” said Mr A. Sorby, in his presidential report to the annual meeting of the Waikato Branch of the Real Estate institute of New Zealand, which was held in Hamilton last night, following the annual dinner. There was stiii a feeling of uncertainty as to the future of the farming industry, which especially referred to dealings with sheep country. “Most of us feel, however, that there is no safer investment for capital than the land,” he added.
“On the other hand town property has been in fairly keen demand, and many houses and sections had changed hands at much h.’igner prices than those ruling a few years ago. Suburban farm lets, however, are not in demand, a fact that is to be regretted.” •Referring to the war, the new president, Mr 0. S. Boyes, said that probably harder times were ahead of the members, with the result that competition would be keener. It therefore behoved each member to carry on In the true spirit of co-operation. Mr C. W. Pepperell, chairman of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, replying to the toast of the chamber at the dinner, urged people to loosen their purse strings and buy normally. In that way the war scare could be overcome, business would carry on as usual, and it would be to the benefit of the country as a whole.
