ROADS IN FRANKTON
COMPLAINT BY HOUSEHOLDER DISCUSSION BY COUNCIL When a complaint regarding the state of Colombo Street, Frankton, was received by letter from a householder of the street at last night’s meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council, Mr C. Lafferty again complained at the scarcity of work Lhat had been done to the roads in the Frankton area. The complaint stated that owing to the lack of proper crossing facilities ears and trucks crossing the footpaths had torn the footways about, and suggested that the street should be kerbed and channelled and the footpaths and roadways sealed.
“ This street was metalled about twelve months ago but the job was npt completed and all the metal has been scoured from it,” said Air Lafferty, who asked why the metal chips had not been rolled and sealed. The engineer had stated that no more permanent street work could be undertaken until the street loan poles had been taken and Mr Lal'ferty asked why tar from the Hamilton gasworks was not being used to
;al the roads in the meantime,
“ I have been given to understand that the tar at the gasworks is being burned, and if this is so it is a scandalous shame when many streets require some kind of binding on the metal laid down,” said Air Lafferty. The engineer, Air R. Worley, "bad replied to the letter that steps had been taken to prevent the cars and trucks from damaging the footway, and it was decided to notify the householder in the terms of the engineer’s report.
