IMPRISONMENT TO FINE THEFT BY AIRCRAFTSMAN (By Telegraph.—Press Association) C ll> R I S TC] IU U 011 , Wednesday An appeal against a sentence of imprisonment with hard labour was upheld by .Mr Justice in the Supreme Court today. He varied a sentence of six weeks’ imprisonment with hard labour to a fine of £lO on June 20. An aircraftsman at Wigram named Dickie pleaded guilty of the theft of a uniform valued” at £lO 2s 6cl. Mr E. G. Levvey, S.M., sentenced him to six weeks’ imprisonment with hard labour. After Dickie had served eight days of his sentence he appealed to the. Supreme Court for a variation of the sentence. Mr Justice North croft expressed doubt as to whether he had jurisdiction to deal with the ease. The Full Court decided yesterday that the Judge had .jurisdiction. in support of Lhe' appeal counsel
