PERSONNEL ANNOUNCED PLANS FOR WAR PRODUCTION (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) WELLINGTON, Tuesday The Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. W. Lee Martin, has set up a Council of Primary Production to meet tho exigencies of war conditions. The personnel is as follows: The Hon. \V. Lee Martin, Minister of Agriculture, chairman; Mr A. H. Cockayne, controller of primary industries, deputy-chairman; Mr W. W. MuJholland, president of the New Zealand Farmers' Union; Mr K. Eddy, president of the New Zealand Workers’ Union; Mr W. E. Hale, chairman of the New Zealand Dairy Board; Mr L. J. Wild, president of the Royal Agricultural Society; Mr H. M. Christie, chairman of the Wool Council; Mr L. McLean, farmer, Hastings; Mr R. B. Tennent, director of the Fields Division, Department of Agriculture, who has been appointed director of primary production to the council. The Minister stated: “After consultation with farmers and farm workers' organisations, 1 invited representatives of these organisations to form a council of primary production. I am pleased to say that every rnan whose services were called upou instantly accepted the appointment. "It has been my endeavour to set up a working committee representative of all the major phases of primary production, '* said Mr Lee Martin, “and when the full organisation, which includes subsidiary national and district committees, is set up 1 think we will be able to play a part worthy of our highest traditions. The whole of the machinery is being set in motion with the greatest possible speed, and we will soon be able to announce plans for a sustained and unprecedented effort.” NEEDS OF INDUSTRY EMERGENCY COUNCIL (By Telegraph.—Special to Time*) WELLINGTON, Tuesday Emergency power has been taken by the Minister of Labour, the Hon. P. C. Webb, to appoint an Industrial Emergency Council to assist him in dealing with any labour questions that may arise as a result of measures taken to meet war conditions. This announcement was made tonight by the Minister, who said the council would consist of the following;—Mr T. 0. Bishop, Captain S. Holm, Messrs H. J. Knight, W. Marshall, A. C. Mitchell, A. W. Nisbet, A. P. O'Shea, A. Rowlands, A. McLagan, J. Roberts, F. P. Walsh, F. Cornwell, E\ C. Young, R. Eddy, R. Brooks and W. Clarke. In making the announcement the Minister stated:— “1 have appointed the Industrial Emergency Council realising that the production of ail commodities within New Zealand must not only be maintained at the present level, but must be increased as far as possible during the war. There is no doubt that many questions involving the relationship between workers and employers and calling for full co-operation will arise from time to time in all industries and it is felt that the appointment of the council will enable these matters to be dealt with reasonably and quickly.”
