BIG BULL FAIR QUALITY SIRES IN REQUEST PRICES TO 43 GUINEAS The benches in the selling pavilion at the Glaudelands Showgrounds today were crowded with a record attendance of buyers for the opening day of the 24 th annual bull fair of the Waikato Combined Breeders’ Association. More than 150 Jersey bulls were catalogued for auction at the sale to-day, and although competition opened quietly it soon improved and quality sires were keenly sought. Over the early sales, good serviceable sorts were selling to bids ranging from 25 to 43 guineas, with less attractive entries making from 12 to 23£ guineas. A line of quality young bulls from Mr J. Colson, Colson Estate, proved in keen request from 25 to 43 guineas, Mr G. 11. Bowman, of Ilawera, paying the latter figure for Brookdell Reliance, a yearling by Ivu Ivu Glad Owl from Brookdell Blanche. A quality line from Mr A. Ilazelton, of Waihou, sold briskly from 28 to 37 guineas. The latter price was paid by Mayston Bros, of Bruntwood, for a yearling son of Brampton Standard Success (imp) and Jersey Meadows Helen, h.c. Jerseys To-morrow Altogether 439 bulls will be offerfd during the sale, which will conclude on Friday. The balance of the Jerseys will be auctioned to-morrow, while Shorthorns, Friesians and Ayrshires will come forward on the final day. The sale is being conducted by the Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Co., Ltd, the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd, G. W. Vercoe and Go., .Ltd, and Dalgety and Go., Ltd.
