SURVIVORS OF H.M.S. COURAGEOUS LINK WITH FRENCH NAVY United Free* As.»n. —El**r. Tel Copyright > (Received Sept. 20, 11 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 19 Additional survivors of H.M.S. Courageous, which was sunk by a German submarine, are 23 officers and 230 ratings. The total is now 70 officers and Gli ratings. The Chief of the French Na\al Staff has telegraphed Mr Winston Churchill, First Lord of the Admiralty, that the French Navy has learned of the glorious end of H.M.S. Courageous, and feels how alive and real are the links binding it and the British Navy. Link With New Zealand The survivors of H.M.S. Courageous include Captain C. F. Phillips, who was a lieutenant of marines on the Duke of Windsor’s Australian tour. Later he served in the New Zealand Navy and married a New Zealander.
