GARDEN COMPETITION

SCHEME FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN WINTER SHOW FEATURE Designed to impress on school children the need for growing vegetables to meet any possible shortage in wartime, the Waikato Winter Show Association lias decided to conduct a number of home garden competitions for children attending the primary and secondry schools in the Auckland Province. The exhibits in each competition, for which is no entry fee, will be disfor which there is no entry fee, will be displayed and judged at the 19 40 Winter Show. The first competition on the association's list is for nine potatoes, any variety, grown by the entrant. With the inclusion of tin's class the sponsors of the competitions have stressed the great value of potatoes among the food crops of the nation. The first prize for the competition will be 7s 6d and the second prize 4s.
