SHADE LOWER
OX BEEF VALUES PRICES AT FRANKTON FAT SHEEP LITTLE CHEAPER Ox beef values were Just a shade lower at the Frankton saleyards yesterday when a moderate entry of good quality sorts was forward. Cows and heifers, however, were fully firm, but fat sheep were not so ready of sale and buyers benefited by any price changes. An average light entry of fat pigs sold at firm rates. Seme extra heavy sorts were included in the ox department, one very i heavy Shorthorn selling at £lB 7s Gd, the highest price realised at the yards this year. However, at this money this particular beast, as in the case of others which sold at £lB and £lB ss, were not dear buying, and were probably bought at well under 40s per lOUlb. Other heavy cattle were traded from £l4 10s to £l6 10s, under brisk competition, while from £ll 16s to £l3 10s was given for light and medium sorts. Best ox was quoted from 38s to 40s per 1001 b. The quality of the cows and heifers was perhaps not quite up to the standard seen at some previous sales, but there was no lack of competition and the market was fully firm. Extra heavy choice sorts changed hands readily from £lO 19s to £l3 19s, with ordinary heavy descriptions being quoted from £9 5s to £lO 15s. The entry was not a heavy one and this was undoubtedly a factor in the keen competition. Extra choice cow and heifer beef was again quoted from 35s to 38s per 100 lb. Slightly Slacker Fat sheep were again forward in heavy numbers, but there was not the same keen demand that was apparent at the previous sale and values tended to ease slightly. A feature of the entry was the large number of ewes on offer and the smaller number of wethers in comparison. Ewes were more affected by the slackening in interest than were wethers, but the greater number forward was a factor in the slight recession of ewe values. Extra prime wethers were quoted from 29s 6d to 34s 6d, against 30s 9<i to 36s 9d, but comparatively few pens were auctioned above 30s, the usual range of values for good quality pens being from 24s 6d to 28s 6d. Extra prime ewes were quoted from 20s to 245, in comparison with 24s to 28s 9d, although in some cases small lines made up to 25s 6d. More shorn entries were penned and these met with a fairly keen demand. Hoggets made much the same money as last week. Fat pigs sold steadily and there was little alteration in values, baconers being quoted from 66s to 82s, and porkers from 45s to 655. Store pigs were usually dearer, slips selling read-, ily from 30s to 35s 9d, against 22s to 30s last week. °rlce Summary The following table is a summary of prices realised for fat stock at the Frankton yards during the past fortnight :
