BRITISH TUG SUNK
GIFTS FROM COMMANDER “IT MAY BE OURS NEXT” (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, Sept. 18 The commander of a German U-boat gave the captain and crew of the British tug Neptunia some bottles of brandy, cigarettes and flares before he sank the Neptunia, which had tried to out-distance the U-boat 360 miles from land. The captain of the tug and his crew of seven were landed at a British port at the week-end. The captain said that after the tug was captured the commander of the submarine went on board. The former remarked: “This is a bit of hard luck.” The U-boat commander replied in English: “Never mind. It is your turn now. It may be ours next.”. The crew then lowered their lifeboats and the tug was sent to the bottom. The Neptunia, a vessel of 798 tons, was owned by the Overseas Towage and Salvage Company, Limited. It was built last year.
