REVIEW SHORTLY
TRANSPORT LICENCES SPECIAL WARTIME MEASURE (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Monday Referring to his plan for improving the efficiency of the commercial road transport industry during the war, the Minister of Transport, the Hon. R. Semple, stated to-day that the four transport licensing authorities would shortly be holding public hearings to review transport licenses. He had directed the licensing authorities to carry out these reviews in accordance with the provisions of the transport legislation, because while it was not desired to take any steps that might unduly disrupt national production and trade, it was felt that anything in the way of wasteful usage of petrol should be avoided during the war. He would like to assure any operators affected, said Mr Semple, that any alterations made in their services would be for the duration of the war, and a further review would be made when hostilities ceased.
