POINTS ABOUT CANDY
What a number of errors receive general acceptance and enter the realm of so-called “ facts ”! Candy is a case in point.
Jt is generally accepted by mothers that candy, sweets, and sugar are bad for children; yet such is far from being the case. Children crave candy because their systems need it, and it is good for them. Candy supplies sugar which is readily oxidised in the system. It is necessary alike to children and adults, except for diabetics. It is not a good habit to eat between meals; and for that reason alone children should be discouraged from eating sweets between meals. Bui in order that the children can get their needed quantity of candy in some form, see that it is served as the final sweetmeat at the end of a meal two or three times a week. It is not usually known that candy often proves an excellent substitute for the craving for alcohol or tobacco, and that many grown-ups take it for that purpose.
