GERMANY’S AIMS

-EYES ON AUSTRALIA” DIVISION OF THE SPOILS EFFECT OF PROPAGANDA The Imperial aims of Nazism, particularly in respect to colonies, are discussed toy Mr Paul Grisar. a former editor of many Nazi publications, who is now in Australia, and his views, at the present time, make very interesting reading. Mr Grisar was an editor in Germany under the Nazi rule until April, 1937, and, although he was not of pure "Aryan - ’ descent he entered the Nazi Party in 1933. "Although all the people who entered the party after Hitler came into power on January 30, 1933. more under pressure than on their own free will, are not considered as real Nazis, l maintained a position as editor of several periodicals and newly-issued Nazi magazines by means of intluential connections among the Nazis," adds Mr Grisar. “1 was introduced to Hitler, Goebbels, Goering and Ley* and attended meetings presided over toy them, only a small group of elected people was allowed to attend. "When the locai Nazi authorities, in March, 1937, found out that l am not of pure "Aryan" descent, 1 took the hint of Nazi friends to disappear immediately, and went abroad. After spending six. months in England l runic to Australia to start a new life. My political belief had been that of a National Liberal. Alter Hitler came into power, this party was prohibited aiong with all other parlies apart from the Nazi Parti. Policy Completely Wrong "My opinion is that Hitler's policy towards Great Britain is completely wrong. Hitler's greatest mistake is that he left the "Bismarck line, according to which Germany ought to keep friendship with England. I say ‘England’ because Germans are incapable of understanding the composition of the British Empire: they consider England as the executive of the Empire. " Let England have the mastership of the high seas and Germany the mastership of the European continent,’ was Bismarck's principle. A friendship treaty with Russia secured Germany at the rear. The last Kaiser Wilhelm 11, when dismissing Bismarck, left this line and turned against England by building up a big navy. Hitler is going the same way. "To break up the British Empire and to deprive Britain and France of their key positions at Gibraltar. Malta, Tunis, the Suez canal, Ceylon and Australia, is Hitler’s last aim. "Cape Town would, according to his plan, become an international harbour granting Germany the same military and economic rights as England. Safeguarding Against Blockade "Hitler’s first consideration at present is to get the Baltic States under his supervision or protection,’ and to create a second Manchukuo by forming an ‘independent’ Ukraine. So, reaching from the. Baltic to til© Black Sea, Hitler means to be safeguarded against any future blockade of the kind which brought Germany to her knees in the last war. The ten years’ lease of Trieste which Hitler demanded and got recently from Mussolini is supposed lo be a further safeguard against a blockade. The fufilment of his programme is impossible for Hitler without having the complete mastery of the Baltic. Danzig and the socalled Polish Corridor are therefore a strategic necessity for Hitler. To take Poland completely under his "protection’ would only be a question of a later date. The same fate is threatening Lithuania, and after settling these businesses Hitler would turn against Holland, Portugal and Belgium in order to confiscate their colonies. The assumption is that Great Britain would protest, tout not go to war about other nations’ colonies. "To break up the British Empire would then have been left for later years or for the next generation; but, as England is interfering more and more with Hitler's policy, he has now completely turned against her. in the event of Great Britain losing the war, she would be compelled to surrender great parts of the British Empire to Nazi Germany. Hitler Drafts Scheme "It may sound fantastic, but there is already an agreement in existence in regard to Australia, drafted by Hitler. According to this agreement, Australia would, after England's defeat be divided between Germany and Italy. Queensland, with its* great numbers of Italian settlements, together with New South Wales and North Australia, is intended to come to Italy, with Sydney as capital. Victoria and South Australia (where the greatest number of German farmers live; wouid be taken by Germany. "Japan would, according to this agreement (which Japan has not signed) keep her hands off Australia. She is expected, in case of war, to bomb Australia's most important centres and do all she possibly can to weaken the Commonwealth's militarv and economic position and cut it off from England. Japan’s reward is to be a free hand to conquer China and the right to take the British possessions between Japan and New Guinea. Germany would enjoy preferential trade in these Pacific areas. "The German Press, at a demand from Propaganda Minister Goebbels, who is getting his demands from Hitler direct, has been drawing the attention of Germans to Australia, the land of wool and various raw materials. Australia is a continent which, according to Nazi propaganda, could bo gradually brought up to 25,000,000 Inhabitants in fifty years' time. That is a very important factor from the Nazi point of view? Flood of Propaganda "Five years ago we did not know very much about Australia in Germany. it seemed lo be outside the globe. But this attitude has been completely changed as a consequence of Hitler’s colonial plans and ambitions. While in former years the Nazi-controlled press issued next to nothing abou! Australia, newspapers and periodicals have been working up.-n their readers with articles and pictures dealing with Australia. ‘"it is pointed out that the first

Governor of Australia (Governor Phillip; and the first Australian wheat farmers were Germans; and further the Germans who went to Australia are glorified as the builders of the Commonwealth and the real creators of wool and wheat production. 'The feeling in Germany among the German people has already been created by the Nazi Press and wireless that Australia has been built up by Germany. England has not done a satisfactory job in developing this "colony,’ and the present demonstration is not doing so either: so runs the impression. Viewing the matter in this way, the German youth will enthusiastically go to war if Hitler so decrees. And one objective would be to unite with Germany a continent which should be German !’ ”

Frogs have recently been used for research work on the ductless glands. If a tadpole is given extract of thyroid gland it will develop into a frog long before its Ippointed time, but will never grow bigger than a fair-sized fly.
