EMPIRE RESOURCES
FULL DEVOTION TO CAUSE CAPACITY OP INDUSTRIES MENTION OP NEW ZEALAND (Ofllcial Wireless) (Received Sept. 16, 3.15 p.m.) RUGBY, Sept. 15 A Ministry of Information statement Indicating the extent of the Empire’s support for Britain and the cause for ■which we are now fighting says:— “The stream of messages arriving from all parts of the Empire and the colonies for the King have one thing in common. Each is much more than a mere verbal expression of loyalty. All denote that the resources of the Empire will he completely devoted to the prosecution of the war to a successful end—and the British Empire’s resources are illimitable. “The Dominions, more particularly Australia and Canada, are great manufacturing countries, as well as great food producing areas. These Dominions’ industries do not only sustain their internal economic life but will help considerably in the economic life of the Mother-Country. The Dominion industries are not a luxury output, but basic activities. Iron and steel manufacture, for instance, is now well developed in the Dominions and India, which are also great producers of foodstuffs and raw materials. South Africa’s gold supplies are vitally important. "What the countries of the Empire mean by devoting their strength to the carrying on of the war is well shown by the Hon. W. Nash’s statement in the New Zealand Parliament, expressing the Government’s determination to use all the nation’s resources and provide kinsmen and friends overseas with the necessary food and clothing." POLES’ LINES PIERCED HEAVY FIGHTING CONTINUES (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received Sept. 16, 2.45 p.m.) f LONDON, Sept. 15 A German wireless announces that General von Brauchitsch visited the German lines near Lodz before departing for Kutno, where the Poles still are effectively opposing the German advance. The British United Press representative at Zaleszezyki says the Germans seem to have definitely pierced the main Polish line at five points. The Polish Army apparently has escaped to the north-east from the sowth, thereby disappointing the German drive against Lemberg in the hope of cutting them off. Heavy fighting continues on the outskirts of Lwow. A Budapest correspondent says that all hospitals in the Tranva-Slovak medical centre have evicted their patients and are filled up with German war wounded.
