SCHOLARSHIP FUND
HIGH SCHOOL OLD BOYS - ■ i INTEREST IN AWARD “The sum of £2 90 is now held to the credit of the Ebcn Wilson Memorial Scholarship Fund,” says Mr J. R. Fitzgerald in his report to be pre- . sented to the annual meeting of the ; j Hamilton High School Old Boys’ AsI sociation on September 23. “The anI nual income from this amount is j awarded in the form of a scholarship , I to a boy, selected by the committee, attending or about to attend the I school. Competition for the award ! during the past year was very keen, there being altogether 17 applicants ! from schools in and around Hamilton. I The process of selection entails quite a considerable amount of work as each applicant is personally interviewed before a final award is made, j but it is satisfying to note the interest j which is being taken by primary schools’ masters and pupils in the j scholarship. “The memorial to the late Mr Eben j Wilson, a bronze plaque with a profile of the late headmaster engraved on it was erected in the school assembly j hall last June and unveiled at a suitable ceremony, which many of the old boys attended. The esteem and respect in which the late Mr Wilson was held was disclosed by the great number attending the ceremony, the hall being packed to the doors by ; those who came to pay a final public j tribute to his memory. “The unveiling ceremony was preceded by appropriate addresses and j also by songs suitable to the occasion rendered by the pupils of the school," ( continues Mr Fitzgerald. “The mem- . orial is, of course, open for inspection j at any time by any visiting or other j old boy. * Roplica for New School “It will also interest members to know that from surplus moneys held ; in hand from Ihe memorial fund it j has been arranged that a small - replica of the plaque should he com- ! plctcd by Mr Gross at the appropriate time, for erection later in the, new I school which the Education Departi ment is proposing to build at llamil- • j ton East.” : j The membership of the association . stands at. 120 which represents an inr j crease of 29 over the previous year. i j 11 ... tsss 1 : lion.
