NATIONAL RESOURCES COUNCIL TO OPERATE FARMERS’ SUPPORT ASSURED (By Telegraph.—special to Times) WELLINGTON, Friday The necessity for increased production of agricultural and pastoral commodities was strongly emphasised by the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon W. Lee Martin, in a statement today. He said steps had already been taken to set up a comprehensive national organisation to marshal the whole of the resources of the Dominion in a sustained effort to increase primary production. 44 1 have been charged by the Government with the organisation of production of primary commodities up to the point of distribution or marketing,” said the Minister. 44 I have already consulted leaders of the .principal farmers’ organisations and been assured of the whole-hearted co-opera-tion of the farmers of New Zealand. 44 The Government has decided to appoint a Council of Primary Production, over which I shall preside. It will be entrusted with the coordination of efforts of primary producers on an organised basis throughout the Dominion. I expect to be in a position within a few days to announce the personnel of the council and subsidiary organisations and to outline their functions. “ Since the crisis developed no time has been lost and no time shall be lost in effectively planning the maintenance and extension of farm production,” the Minister said, 44 and with the co-opera-tion of the farmers I am satisfied we shall be able to evolve an organisation sufficient to meet any needs.”
