BOMBING OF TOWNS HITLER’S BRUTAL ORDERS EXECUTED TO THE LETTER (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received Sept. 16, 10.55 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 15 The Germans are bombing all towns and villages in southern and central Poland, which presents a terrible picture, declared a dramatic broadcast from the Lwow radio. Hitler has given the order, “Destroy everything you meet In your way,” and It Is being executed to the letter. Siedlce, which had a population of 37,000 is almost completely destroyed and Lublin is afire. The German airmen fire on Polish airmen escaping in parachutes from damaged machines. These methods have not succeeded in conquering Poland’s spirit of resistance. The German air raids have killed 20,000 civilians, which exceeds the number of military casualties. The towns destroyed include Czestochowa. The Diplomatic Corps, including the Papal Nuncio, after inspecting the effects of the bombing of the open town of Krzemieniec, Poland’s third provisional capital, decided to ask their Governments to protest to Berlin. Market Place Machine-Gunning The English, Hungarian, Belgian, Estonian, Swedish, Dutch and Swiss Ministers have contributed to the relief of the victims of the bombardment of Krzemieniec, where the Germans machine-gunned a crowded market piaoe, killing thirty people and wounding one hundred. Germany had previously informed the Polish Foreign Office that the Diplomatic Corps had removed to Krzemieniec. BERLIN, Sept. 15. A communique confirms the crossing of the Lemberg-Lublin road. RUIN AND DESOLATION PLIGHT OF WARSAW SOLDIERS INCREDIBLE COURAGE (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) ('Received Sept. 16, 12.30 p.m.) BRUSSELS, Sept. 15 The Warsaw correspondent of the newspaper Independance Beige describes Warsaw as a city of ruin and desolation. Many six-storey buildings collapsed like packs of cards. Funeral processions traverse the streets unceasingly. The courage of the soldiers is incredible many of the wounded fighting desperately while awaiting medical aid which is disorganised. THE QUEEN ACTIVE IN WAR WORK APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received Sept. 16, 12.45 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 15 A Ministry of Information communique states the Queen now heads the women’s defence service. The King uas appointed her Com-mandant-in-Chief of the Women’s Royal Naval Service, the Auxiliary Territorial Service and the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force. HAMILTON (Ontario), Sept. 15 The Premier, Mr Hepburn, asserting that a “ world’s jury finds Herr Hitler guilty of murder,’’ asked the Canadian Prime Minister, Mr Mackenzie King, to order flags to be llown at half-mast for Margaret Hayworthy, aged 10 years, a Canadian who died of injuries as a result of the torpedoing of the Athenia. RUSSIA AND CHINA PRESSURE BY GERMANY END TO ASSISTANCE LIKELY (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Coovrla-ht) (Received Sept. 16, 11 a.m.) TOKIO, Sept. 15 The newspaper Hochi reports that the German Ambassador has been ordered to Berlin, ostensibly to recommend Germany to induce Russia to end its assistance to China. It adds that it is believed that Russia will agree. RUSSIA PREPARING 1,000,000 RECRUITS SUMMONED (.United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received Sept. JG, 11 a.m.) MOSCOW, Sept. 15 One million additional recruits were called up today under the recent military service law. The Pravda explains that this is to avoid being caught unawares.
