Sir Alexander Young, who was in 'Hamilton yesterday, has returned to Auckland. Mr J. P. Rutherford has been appointed Deputy-Controller and Audi-tor-General, according to a notice in the Gazette. Mr S. S. Dean, of Wellington, chairman of the executive of the New Zealand Rugby Union arrived in Hamilton today for the Maori-Fijian test match. Second Lieutenant F. C. Foster has been posted to the Ist Cadet Battalion of the Waikato Regiment, Scoutmaster A. W. Gordon, of Rotorua, has been awarded a Certificate of Merit for services to the Boy Scout movement. He has been associated with it for nearly 25 years. Mr A. H. McKane (Labour) was elected unopposed to the Greymouth Borough Council to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr A. H. Paterson. Owing to the International situation the citizens’ committee decided not to contest the election.
