Mrs T. G. Reynolds, Hamilton, is spending a few days in Auckland. Miss Myra Salter, Hamilton, is spending the week-end in Auckland. Mrs J. A. Kilncr, Auckland, has returned home from a visit to Hamilton. Mrs J. Deas, Otahuhu, has been visiting Mrs Craig Wallace, Bruntwood. Mrs M. G. Masefield, Auckland, is visiting her daughter, Mrs R. B. Seabrook, Hamilton. Miss Christine Farrer and Miss Pat Farrer return to Hamilton on Monday from a trip to Australia. -Miss Betty Gillies, who has been the guest of Mrs 11. T. Gillies, Hamilton, has returned to New Plymouth. Members of the Hamilton branch of the W.D.F.U. have commenced first-aid classes at the Y.M.C.A. every Tuesday. Mrs Maurice Kilpatrick, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs G. Parkhouse, Hamilton, has returned to Palmerston North. • * • • A special vote of appreciation of the services of Miss D. I. Buchanan, tutor-sister at the Waikato Hospital, was passed at a meeting of the board this week. Miss Buchanan has lately •been appointed Matron of the Southland Hospital. • * • • Miss Jane Sunderland, formerly of Ilamilton and now residing in England, was among the guests at the marriage at Havering-atte-Bower, Essex, of Miss Margery Pearce Luke, elder daughter of the late Mr and Mrs J. Pearce Luke, of Wellington, to Mr Ronald Platt, of Ilford, Essex. The bride was given away by Mr W. J. Jordan, High Commissioner for New Zealand. • • • * It has been decided to send two boxes of knitted balaclavas, mittens and socks to the soldiers overseas,
who will soon be experiencing the rigours of winter and Mrs J. Ward Chapman. Ilukanui Road, Hamilton, has been appointed receiver of parcels of these articles, donated by j those wishing to help in this manner. Marcroft. | The final card evening of the season was held this week, the prizewinners being: Points prize for the season, Mrs K. Andrews and Mr T. Stevens. The usual prizes were won •by Mrs G. Jackson 1, Miss B. Carr, consolation; Mr W. G. Vernon 1, Mr A. Pascoe, consolation. ! At the “open evening" held by the I Raglan dancing class a presentation was made to Mr and Mrs P. Sweet- 1 ! man by Mrs H. M. Taylor and her pupils, in recognition of the kindness ! shown by the guests in conveying pupils to and from the dancing class.
