SOME CONFUSION
PRICES FOR BUTTER INFORMATION FROM LONDON AWAITING MINISTER’S STATEMENT Commenting on the cabled advice from London that maximum prices for Empire butter had been fixed at 129 s a cwt with a retail value of Is 5d a lb., Mr W. E. Hale, chairman of the New Zealand Dairy Board, said in Hamilton this morning that some confusion had arisen as a result of the cablegram, because of the radio report from the Daventry station that tlic retail price would be Is 7<J a lb. Mr Hale said that clarification of the position would come only when the Minister of Marketing made his announcement in regard to the price lo be paid this season. Fanners should he patient in the meantime and disregard any reports until Mr Nash's announcement, which would be made very shortly. It had to be remembered that Hie present times were very difficult and that the Government was experiencing a busy time indeed with its negotiations with the Imperial Government. ‘lt is obvious that under wartime conditions New Zealand has a definite f’*itv to the Mother Country to supply ail the produce which will be so urgently required,” remarked Mr Hale.
